Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official recruitment notification for the Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical & Electrical) Examination, 2026. A total of 1,748 tentative vacancies have been announced for Junior Engineer (JE) and Scientific Assistant posts across premier Central Government departments including CPWD, BRO, MES, CWC, DoT, IMD, NTRO, and others. Candidates possessing an Engineering Degree or 3-Year Diploma in relevant disciplines are eligible to apply online from 02 September 2026 to 22 September 2026 at the official SSC portal (ssc.gov.in).

Vacancy Breakup & Participating Departments

SSC has announced 1,748 tentative vacancies across multiple Central Government ministries and departments. Detailed post-wise and category-wise (UR, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, PwBD, ESM) distribution will be uploaded separately under the “For Candidates > Tentative Vacancy” section on the SSC website.

The candidate's age will be determined as on 01 August 2026:

• For Posts with Upper Age Limit up to 30 Years: Candidate must be born between 02.08.1996 and 01.08.2008.
• For Posts with Upper Age Limit up to 32 Years (CPWD, CWC, etc.): Candidate must be born between 02.08.1994 and 01.08.2008.

The application fee must be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa / MasterCard / Maestro / RuPay credit or debit cards up to 23 September 2026 (23:00 hrs).

Salary & Perks (7th CPC Pay Scale)

Candidates selected for Junior Engineer and Scientific Assistant positions will be placed in Group ‘B’ (Non-Gazetted), Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix:

• Pay Scale: ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 per month (Basic Pay starting at ₹35,400).
• Allowances: Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), Medical Facilities, NPS Pension contributions, and government accommodations as per posting location.

Selection Process & Examination Scheme

The recruitment will be conducted in the following stages:

Stage 1: Paper-I (Computer Based Test – Objective Type)

Negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer in Paper-I.

Stage 2: Paper-II (Computer Based Test – Technical Subject)

Negative marking: 1.0 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer in Paper-II (each question carries 3 marks).

Stage 3 & 4: Document Verification (DV) and Medical Standards

• Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must present original academic certificates, category certificates, identity proof, and experience records during user department verification.
• Physical Efficiency & Medical Examination: Applicable specifically for posts under Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and select field departments.

How to Apply Online for SSC JE 2026 (Step-by-Step)

1. One-Time Registration (OTR): Visit the official website ssc.gov.in or open the mySSC App. Click on Login or Register and complete your OTR if not already done.
2. Login: Enter your Registration Number and Password to access the candidate dashboard.
3. Select Examination: Navigate to the Live Examinations section and click on Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical & Electrical) Examination, 2026.
4. Fill Application Details: Select preferred exam centres, educational qualifications, department preference, and engineering discipline.
5. Upload Live Photo & Signature: Capture live photograph using webcam/mobile app as per SSC guidelines and upload clear scanned signature.
6. Pay Application Fee: Pay ₹100 online via UPI, Net Banking, or Debit Card (Exempted categories can directly proceed).
